Bible Quiz #42 – Jesus calls out a serious correction.

Jesus calls out a serious correction.

From Luke 18:15-17 (CEV) Some people brought their little children for Jesus to bless. But when his disciples saw them doing this, they told the people to stop bothering him.  (16)  So Jesus called the children over to him and said, “Let the children come to me! Don’t try to stop them. People who are like these children belong to God’s kingdom.  (17)  You will never get into God’s kingdom unless you enter it like a child!”

— Note what Jesus said in Vs.17 “You will never get into God’s kingdom unless you enter it like a child!”

Q1. How does a child’s faith please God? (Mark all these you think are true.)

O – They freely receive the idea that God loves them.     O – They want God’s approval, not His discipline.

O – They thank God for every blessing.     O – They expect God to treat them fairly.

O – They expect God to hear their prayers.     O – They fear God and hide from Him.

We look next at Psalm 50, where God corrects adult attitudes to Himself through Asaph’s song.

Psalm 50:14-17 (CEV) I am God Most High! The only sacrifice I want is for you to be thankful and to keep your word.  (15)  Pray to me in time of trouble. I will rescue you, and you will honor me.  (16)  But to the wicked I say: “You don’t have the right to mention my laws or claim to keep our agreement!  (17)  You refused correction and rejected my commands.

Q2. (Mark all these you think are true.) To please our God we adults should…

O – pray with humility expecting God to hear us.     O – thank God for every blessing.

O – bring honor and praise to His name.     O – understand that God always judges fairly.

O – understand that God loves us and if we seek after Him, He will rescue us.

O – desire God’s approval, and obey His commands.     O – fear God and hide away from Him.

— Again remembering what Jesus said in Luke 18:17 “You will never get into God’s kingdom unless you enter it like a child!”

Studying other aspects of children… From 1st Corinthians 13:4-5a (CEV) Love is kind and patient, never jealous, boastful, proud, or  (5)  rude. Love isn’t selfish or quick tempered.

— The love that God gives us is kind and patient, we can find this in the behavior of innocent children.

— However, we can also find sin creeping in at a young age…

Q3. Which of these behaviors have you seen in little children?

(Check behaviors you’ve witnessed and circle whether it is a ‘G’ for Good OR a ‘B’ for bad behavior.)

O – They find it hard to be patient… G / B     O – They refuse to share things… G / B

O – They quickly forgive others… G / B     O – They lose their tempers… G / B

O – They get jealous when another child gets praised or rewarded… G / B

O – They quickly forget all quarrels, hurts, and anger… G / B      O – They like to share… G / B

— Those ‘B’s for bad behavior show that even children have sin creeping into their fleshly thoughts and actions.

Q4. Thinking back to Luke 18:15-16 when Jesus said, “People who are like these children belong to God’s kingdom.” He was speaking of…

a) the innocent qualities of the children.     b) the good and bad qualities of the children.

Jesus calls out a serious correction… (Pg.#2)

To continue a study of other aspects of children… From 1st Corinthians 13:5b-8a… It doesn’t keep a record of wrongs that others do.  (6)  Love rejoices in the truth, but not in evil.  (7)  Love is always supportive, loyal, hopeful, and trusting.  (8)  Love never fails!

Q5. As the Apostle Paul writes this explanation of pure love… Mark the ‘love qualities’ you’ve seen in children…  (Be careful to read your selections)

O Love is kind.     O – Love doesn’t keep a record of wrongs.     O Love rejoices in the truth.

O Love does not rejoice in evil.     O – Love always supports.     O – Love is always loyal.

O – Love is always hopeful.     O – Love is always trusting.     O – Love always fails.

Now from 1st Corinthians 13:8b-10… Everyone who prophesies will stop, and unknown languages will no longer be spoken. All that we know will be forgotten.  (9)  We don’t know everything, and our prophecies are not complete.  (10)  But what is perfect will someday appear, and what isn’t perfect will then disappear.

Q6. When the Apostle Paul writes this, he is writing of…

a) the next day (tomorrow).     b) the next year.     c) when we join with Jesus in His Kingdom.

From 1st Corinthians 13:11-13… When we were children, we thought and reasoned as children do. But when we grew up, we quit our childish ways.  (12)  Now all we can see of God is like a cloudy picture in a mirror. Later we will see him face to face. We don’t know everything, but then we will, just as God completely understands us.  (13)  For now there are faith, hope, and love. But of these three, the greatest is love.

— The Apostle Paul writes here, “When we were children we thought and reasoned as children do. But when we grew up, we quit our childish ways.”

Q7. What other aspect of childhood is Paul writing of?

a) Children have much to learn.     b) Children must grow out of childish (negative) behavior.     c) Both a & b

Q8. The Apostle Paul is relating our earthly understanding to that of…

a) seeing God in a cloudy mirror versus seeing Him face to face.

b) a young child’s knowledge compared to our loving Father’s knowledge.     c) Both a & b

Q9. What is the great and amazing promise Paul writes about here?

a) We will see God face to face.     b) We don’t know everything, but then we will.     c) Both a & b

— From Vs.13 For now there are faith, hope, and love. But of these three, the greatest is love.

Q10. What do we have to hold onto till that awesome day?

a) The hope that our government will make all things good again.

b) The security of our personal bomb shelter and our provisioning for disasters.

c) Our faith in Jesus as Savior, our hope in His sure return, and the fact of His love for us and for all the lost.

________________________________

“But of these three, the greatest is love”… Do we show that love to others?

— When we are filled with His Spirit and therefore moved by God’s love for others, God will overcome evil and all Satan’s plans against us, so we may be a fruitful witness of Christ’s great love within us. (KK)
