Why should we study the Bible? (What does a book of history have for my life today?)
Here are some answers to these questions:
1/ The scriptures written in the Bible come from God’s Holy Spirit to guide, comfort, strengthen and correct all who choose to follow Him. (2nd Timothy 3:16-17 All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, (17) that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work.)
2/ Some might say that these verses are like someone testifying of themselves… Why should we believe this?
— I will ask you to test God’s Word for yourself and see what a true seeking heart will find. (Psalm 34:7-8 The angel of the LORD encamps around those who fear him, and delivers them. (8) Oh, taste and see that the LORD is good! Blessed is the man who takes refuge in him!)
3/ God deals with the spiritual facts of humanity, the physical is no challenge for Him at all, as God can speak anything into existence, or out of existence for that matter. However, in the spiritual realm, He has yielded control of your life into your own hands. This is because God wants you to choose to serve and praise Him, He does not want FORCED SERVICE AND WORSHIP.
— Therefore He has written you a love letter, to counsel, teach and entreat you to choose good over evil, service to others over self-centered living, and eventually eternal life in paradise over the second death in the ‘Lake of fire’.
My point is that in studying the Bible we must meditate on God’s Words, which means taking time to listen to God’s instruction for living a blessed victorious life. (Please note that I do not say ‘trouble-free life’… For as we live a life that seeks to follow God, our first and original enemy, Satan will come against you, and try to stir up people and circumstances to defeat and discourage you.)
— 1st Peter 5:6-11 Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God so that at the proper time he may exalt you, (7) casting all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you. (8) Be sober-minded; be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour. (9) Resist him, firm in your faith, knowing that the same kinds of suffering are being experienced by your brotherhood throughout the world. (10) And after you have suffered a little while, the God of all grace, who has called you to his eternal glory in Christ, will himself restore, confirm, strengthen, and establish you. (11) To him be the dominion forever and ever. Amen.
So with these instructions of Peter (Saint Peter) to lead us, let us study and meditate on God’s Word together.
– You will find that it can change the direction of your life, and give you TRUE peace and victory.
