Bible Quiz #33 – About doing good… What motivates us to do good?

Bible Quiz #33About doing good… What motivates us to do good?

–This (2pg.) quiz leads to a study of righteousness, an uncomfortable word these days.

(CIRCLE THE CORRECT ANSWER)

— We need to understand that God sees the heart, when we do good to be seen as a do-gooder we are not motivated correctly. This will not please God.

SEE: Matthew 5:20 – For I say unto you, That except your righteousness shall exceed the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees, ye shall in no case enter into the kingdom of heaven.

ALSO: 2 Timothy 2:22 – Flee also youthful lusts: but follow righteousness, faith, charity, peace, with them that call on the Lord out of a pure heart.

So what is righteousness? (Some see it as a dirty word equal to arrogance and hypocrisy.)

Proverbs 21:3To do righteousness and justice is more acceptable to the Lord than sacrifice.

Micah 6:8 – He has shown you, O man, what is good; and what does the Lord require of you, but to do justly, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God?

Q1. Here we are told God requires us to do justly… What is also required in our just actions?

Jesus teaches about who is your neighbor by telling a life example story in Luke 10:30-36… Jesus answered, “There was once a man who was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho when robbers attacked him, stripped him, and beat him up, leaving him half dead.  (31)  It so happened that a priest was going down that road; but when he saw the man, he walked on by on the other side.  (32)  In the same way a Levite also came there, went over and looked at the man, and then walked on by on the other side.  (33)  But a Samaritan who was traveling that way came upon the man, and when he saw him, his heart was filled with pity.  (34)  He went over to him, poured oil and wine on his wounds and bandaged them; then he put the man on his own animal and took him to an inn, where he took care of him.  (35)  The next day he took out two silver coins and gave them to the innkeeper. ‘Take care of him,’ he told the innkeeper, ‘and when I come back this way, I will pay you whatever else you spend on him.’ “
