Name of God #7 of 15 –  Jehovah Jireh – Lord Who Provides

[Quote from Megan Allen Ministries – God has provided His Son to pay the penalty for our sin that we may inherit eternal life together with Him. This is who we are in Christ. If He has already provided for us in this way, we can be confident that He will continue to provide for our every need.

Then Abraham raised his eyes and looked, and behold, behind him a ram caught in the thicket by his horns; and Abraham went and took the ram and offered him up for a burnt offering in the place of his son. 14 Abraham called the name of that place The Lord Will Provide, as it is said to this day, “In the mount of the Lord it will be provided.” – Genesis 22:13-14…end of quote.]

This leads us into our study… We only find this name used once in the Bible from this verse in Genesis, and as we read, it is actually the name of the place. However, the promise is spoken by Abraham that, “In the mount of the Lord it will be provided.”

So, let’s discover what it means to have access to our God who will provide…

— Here is an interesting note of God’s provision written by the Apostle Paul.
Found in Philippians 4:16-19 (ESV) Even in Thessalonica you sent me help for my needs once and again.  (17)  Not that I seek the gift, but I seek the fruit that increases to your credit.  (18)  I have received full payment, and more. I am well supplied, having received from Epaphroditus the gifts you sent, a fragrant offering, a sacrifice acceptable and pleasing to God.  (19)  And my God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus.

— Paul starts with thanks for the support fellow Christians are sending.

— To which he adds that God is going to provide for their every need. (Our Jehovah Jireh.)

However there is a point that could easily be missed in these verses about contentment in what God provides… SEE Vs. 17 Not that I seek the gift, but I seek the fruit that increases to your credit.

The English Revised Version of the Bible translates it as… Really, it is not that I want to get gifts from you. But I want you to have the benefit that comes from giving.

Q1. Do you think that our God’s purpose to provide for every need hinges on our own ideas of generosity?

SEE what Jesus said in Luke 6:38 …give, and it will be given to you. Good measure, pressed down, shaken together, running over, will be put into your lap. For with the measure you use it will be measured back to you.”

Again, let’s look at what Jesus taught about God our provider…

From Matthew 6:25-34 (ESV) “Therefore I tell you, do not be anxious about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink, nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing?  (26)  Look at the birds of the air: they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they?  (27)  And which of you by being anxious can add a single hour to his span of life?  (28)  And why are you anxious about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin,  (29)  yet I tell you, even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these.  (30)  But if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is alive and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will he not much more clothe you, O you of little faith?  (31)  Therefore do not be anxious, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’  (32)  For the Gentiles seek after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them all.  (33)  But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.  (34)  “Therefore do not be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.

Q5. (For discussion) How do we follow Jesus’ command from (Vs.33)?  But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.

As we close and enter into a time of prayer,
— I’ll leave you with encouragement in Song (lyrics):
(If you have Jesus as your Savior, by faith receive the promise that God cares for each of His precious children.)

Jehovah Jireh, My Provider, His Grace Is Sufficient for Me, For Me, For Me…
Jehovah Jireh, My Provider, His Grace Is Sufficient for Me.
My God Shall Supply All My Needs, According To His Riches In Glory,
He Will Give His Angels, Charge Over Me.
Jehovah Jireh Cares For Me, For Me, For me… Jehovah Jireh Cares For Me.

— May God truly bless you with all that you have need of. (…KRK)
