Jesus, about asking and receiving…

Jesus talks about asking and receiving…  (Pg.1)

Have you ever prayed for something and it didn’t come to you the way you wanted?

– Or maybe you haven’t seen the answer to that prayer yet… In this part of His ‘Sermon on the Mount’, Jesus calls us to understand better how we ask, and receive answers to those requests, from God the Father. – We will start by reading Matthew 7:7-14…

— Now to dig deeper into these scripture verses…
(I’ve added replacement words which could be used from the original writing in Greek.)

Matthew 7:7 ESV  “Ask, (means to: beg, call for) and it will be given (bestowed, brought forth, committed, granted) to you…

Q1. Do any of these replacement words bring a new light to the meaning of this promise?

…seek (the word seek here means specifically by Hebraism, to worship God), and you will find (means to: get, obtain, perceive, see.)…

Q2(a). How do we seek something, while bringing worship to God?

Q2(b). How does God helping us finding something, relate to, getting, obtaining, perceiving, or seeing?

…knock, and it will be opened to you.

— Simply put, even in the Greek language this means just what it says in English.

(Vs.8) For everyone who asks (calls upon God) receives, and the one who seeks (while worshipping God) finds, and to the one who knocks (asks to enter a closed door) it will be opened.

Q3. Can we learn anything about seeing our answers to prayers from all this?

Jesus talks about asking and receiving…  (Pg.2)

(Vs.9-11) *Or which one of you, if his son asks him for bread, will give him a stone? (10) Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a serpent? (11) If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask him!

Q4. NOTE *Or which one of you, if his son asks him for bread, will give him a stone? …
– How does Vs. 9 connect to Vs. 8? –
(Vs.8) For everyone who asks receives, and the one who seeks finds, and to the one who knocks it will be opened. (How does a caring Father answer his child?)

Jesus continues in Matthew 7:12…So whatever you wish that others would do to you, do also to them, for this is the Law and the Prophets. (SEE Mark 12:28-31.)

Q5. So, how does doing good to others relate to receiving what we ask for?

(Vs.13-14) “Enter by the narrow gate. For the gate is wide and the way is easy that leads to destruction, and those who enter by it are many. (14) For the gate is narrow and the way is hard that leads to life, and those who find it are few.”

Q6. These verses can bring up much to be discussed…

— My question is: How does “entering in by the narrow gate” relate to our asking and receiving from God, and doing to others?
