‘It was a week from Thanksgiving’
It was a week from Thanksgiving and all through the house,
Not a creature was stirring… well MAYBE A MOUSE!
As Mariella and I lay asleep in our bed,
This nightmarish vision burst into my head…
I was at work in the bush, with my brothers three,
Scratching out a road of life from there to eternity…
While climbing in my Ford, beneath me the roadside gave way,
And I was sent crashing and bumping down the cliff-side that day.
When I stopped at the bottom and looked up in relief,
Another horror I beheld that filled me with grief…
For again on that treacherous roadside of pain,
My next oldest brother was climbing again.
He was driving a motorcycle, unaware of my fate,
From deep in the valley all I could do was sit, watch and wait…
For I knew that Harold would soon round that curve,
And the road would be ended… with no time to swerve.
With knotted breath, I saw the terrible crash,
Two objects plummeting in gravity's deathly flight-path…
Down crashed the motorcycle …flinging its parts,
Like some uncontrolled dancer …dying for its art.
Then a separate object came tumbling down,
This was my brother, on collision course with the ground…
Not pausing to breathe… to the base of the precipice I went,
Past broken machinery, before Harold's life-breath was spent.
I searched …and I found him for I knew where he lay,
The bond of my brother called me that day…
In this dream I found him seated crumpled in the cleft of a rock,
With no sign of damage, except bruises, stiffness and shock.
I awoke heart pounding, and tears of joy on my face,
Praises to God, thankfulness overflowing…
I began to thank Him for each sister and brother,
If they had been there, with tears and hugs I would have smothered.
Then God gave me this message… a RENEWED SONG in my heart,
Appreciate your loved ones, even when you're apart…
For life is a beautiful gift, …then their gone,
If tragedy struck …would they know you loved them all 'long?
My praises didn't end there …I also praised God for you,
For in Christ, a member of God's Kingdom, you are my family too…
As we prepare to give thanks this time of our year,
Let us shove antagonism aside, let Christ make our way clear…
You old serpent Satan, take your lies, division and deceit…
We're standing on God's love, foretelling your defeat…
No, I'll never forget the dream I had that dark night…
Now to Christians I must ask …DO YOU PERCEIVE CHRIST'S BODY RIGHT?
