Hebrews 12:25-29 / Session #4 – (Pg.#1)
(25) Be careful and don’t refuse to listen when God speaks. Those people refused to listen to him when he warned them on earth. And they did not escape. Now God is speaking from heaven. So now it will be worse for those who refuse to listen to him.
Q1. What account from the Bible comes to your mind when you read, “Those people refused to listen to him when he warned them on earth. And they did not escape…”?

Time of Noah? (Genesis 11:13-24) … Rebellion of Korah? (Numbers 26:9-10)
Q2. Why do you think it would be worse for people who refuse to listen now?

Who had direct communication with God? (Then, Exodus 20:18-21) – (And now, John 14:15-21)
(26-27) When he spoke before, his voice shook the earth. But now he has promised, “Once again I will shake the earth, but I will also shake heaven.” (27) The words “once again” clearly show us that everything that was created will be destroyed – that is, the things that can be shaken. And only what cannot be shaken will remain.
Q3. As we look to what God has revealed to us of the very end of time future…
What Bible chapters come to mind? (See: Revelation 21:1-8)

(28-29) So we should be thankful because we have a kingdom that cannot be shaken. And because we are thankful, we should worship God in a way that will please him. We should do this with respect and fear, (29) because our God is like a fire that can destroy us.
Hebrews 12:25-29 / Session #4 – (Pg.#2)
We will close by looking at why Paul says that “God is like a fire that can destroy us.”
Matthew Henry wrote of this in his Concordance – “God is the same just and righteous God under the gospel that he appeared to be under the law. Though he be our God in Christ, and now deals with us in a more kind and gracious way, yet he is in himself a consuming fire; that is, a God of strict justice…”
Q6. Do you agree that God is a God of strict justice? (If so, how do we escape condemnation?)

Q7. If we live now under God’s Grace, because of Jesus, why does the Apostle Paul say; “we should worship God in a way that will please him. We should do this with respect and fear”?

— It is my hope and prayer that as Christians examine the Biblical instructions on how to walk in victory together, that we realize we are under the direct authority of our loving Creator God, and if we hold Him in proper respect, our witness to the community around us will also grow and attract others to the saving grace of our Lord Jesus Christ.
When we face opposition… as we will… we should always remember and claim this promise of Jesus, “Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.” (Matthew 11:29-30)…
More Bible verse of comforting promise…
God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. – Psalm 46:1
And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”– Matthew 28:18-20
