Hebrews 12 – (Session #3) – We are part of that unshakable Kingdom!
Hebrews 12:28 speaks comfort to Christians: “So we should be thankful because we have a kingdom that cannot be shaken…” – (Good news for today’s shook-up world. …KRK)
— To encourage us further, we look at Hebrews 12:18-24… You have not come to a place that can be seen and touched, like the mountain the people of Israel saw, which was burning with fire and covered with darkness, gloom, and storms. (19) There is no sound of a trumpet or a voice speaking words like those they heard. When they heard the voice, they begged never to hear another word. (20) They did not want to hear the command: “If anything, even an animal, touches the mountain, it must be killed with stones.” (21) What they saw was so terrible that Moses said, “I am shaking with fear.” (22) But you have come to Mount Zion, to the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem. You have come to a place where thousands of angels have gathered to celebrate. (23) You have come to the meeting of God’s firstborn children. Their names are written in heaven. You have come to God, the judge of all people. And you have come to the spirits of good people who have been made perfect. (24) You have come to Jesus—the one who brought the new agreement from God to his people. You have come to the sprinkled blood that tells us about better things than the blood of Abel.
There is so much to think about in these verses…
— Let’s start by sharing what God’s Holy Spirit is revealing to you in these verses:
_____________________________________________________________________________
_____________________________________________________________________________
Vs.18-21 – They saw such an awesome display of God’s presence, that even Moses trembled.
Q1. I find a question, “How do we see Our Almighty God?” – (Is there room for Holy Fear?)
_____________________________________________________________________________
Vs.22-24 – A hidden truth from F.B. Meyer’s Bible commentary notes… “Notice the writer does not say that we shall, but that we are come, (Vs.22) Already, in our holiest moments, we are part of that great throng to which so many of our beloved have gone.” – (Discuss…)
Q2. If verses 22-24 are active for us today, what do these words in mean to you:
a) “city of the living God”? … “the heavenly Jerusalem”?
b) “to the meeting of God’s firstborn children”? – See: Colossians 1:18 He (Jesus) is the head of the body, which is the church. He is the beginning of everything else. And He is the first among all who will be raised from death. So in everything He is most important.
c) (Vs.24) “You have come to Jesus” … “You have come to the sprinkled blood that tells us about better things than the blood of Abel”? (See Genesis 4:10)
(Note from: Matthew Henry’s Bible commentary… “It (the blood of Jesus) speaks to God in behalf of sinners; it pleads not for vengeance, as the blood of Abel did on him who shed it, but for mercy.”)
– We are part of that unshakable Kingdom, because of God’s mercy, thru the blood of Jesus.
We will close there, for today, and move onto fellowship and prayer… (KRK)
