English Standard Version of the Bible used here — (Mark all the correct answers)
The first question we need to answer to begin this workbook’s closing quiz is…
— Q1. What is the purpose of deception?
O – To lead away from the truth. O – To seek the truth. O – To debate the truth.
A dictionary definition of ‘to deceive’: to mislead or falsely persuade others; practice deceit.
(Note that it is NOT in any way seeking TRUTH.)
The first example of this in the Bible comes from Genesis 3:1-5 Now the serpent was more crafty than any other beast of the field that the LORD God had made. He said to the woman, “Did God actually say, ‘You shall not eat of any tree in the garden’?” (2) And the woman said to the serpent, “We may eat of the fruit of the trees in the garden, (3) but God said, ‘You shall not eat of the fruit of the tree that is in the midst of the garden, neither shall you touch it, lest you die.’” (4) But the serpent said to the woman, “You will not surely die. (5) For God knows that when you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.”
— We understand that Satan used the serpent to plant seeds of unrest and ambition in Eve, so she desired to become like God.
– Q2. (fill in the blanks) From (Vs.4-5)… But the serpent said to the woman, “You ____ ____ surely die. (5) For God knows that when you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.”
O – will indeed O – probably won’t O – will not
– Q3. What is the purpose of the serpent contradicting God’s words?
O – To better Eve’s life. O – To rebel against God. O – To claim that God is hindering Adam and Eve.
– Q4. What was the goal of this deception?
O – To have Eve rebel against God’s authority. O – To claim that God’s word was for mankind’s harm.
– Q5. What was the result of Adam and Eve listening to this deception?
O – A better life for all. O – The introduction of sin, death, and a separation from our Creator.
We next look at another deception, which this time came upon mankind slowly and over much time, this is probably the hardest deception to recognize and act against…
— We find it in Genesis 6:5-8 The LORD saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every intention of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. (6) And the LORD regretted that he had made man on the earth, and it grieved him to his heart. (7) So the LORD said, “I will blot out man whom I have created from the face of the land, man and animals and creeping things and birds of the heavens, for I am sorry that I have made them.” (8) But Noah found favor in the eyes of the LORD.
– Q6. What is happening with mankind in this account of the days of Noah?
O – Everyone is enjoying a better life. O – Everyone is seeking good for their neighbor.
O – Sin, greed and avarice abound, so much so that God regrets that he created man.
– Q7. Do we find any residual good left on Earth?
O – No, all is killing, greed, and evil. O – There seems to be some good left in Noah’s family.
– Q8. If you read further into the account of Noah, what fundamental trait does he possess?
O – He makes war on evil-doers. O – He shows great faith and trust in God.
O – He takes up boat building as a hobby.
– Q9. Did God find perfection in the person of Noah? (To best answer this read Genesis 9:18-21.)
O – Yes, that is why God chose to save him. O – No, but his heart’s desire was to follow God.
(Quiz continues on Pg.#2)
Be careful not to be deceived. (Pg.#2)
We find the Apostle Peter referring to the people who lived in the time of Noah in 1st Peter 3:20… because they formerly did not obey, when God’s patience waited in the days of Noah, while the ark was being prepared, in which a few, that is, eight persons, were brought safely through water.
– Q10. (Fill in the blanks) 1st Peter 3:20… because they formerly ____ ____ _______, when God’s patience waited in the days of Noah
O – obeyed God fully O – did not obey O – made many excuses
– Q11. We see here that in the days of Noah, salvation came to those eight persons because they…
O – steadfastly obeyed God. O – ran out of patience and quit building the ark.
O – listened to their neighbors about how ridiculous it was to build a boat on dry land.
The deceptions that the family of Noah would have had to resist would’ve been many. From the ridicule of making a structure to save them from a deluge of water, when mankind had never even seen as much as a drop of rain, to working to build a huge strange-looking wooden structure, which took place in the 120 years after God’s first warning of a coming flood, until the doors of the Ark were sealed.
— This account of Noah can be found in Genesis chapters 6-7…
You might ask… How does that apply to any deceptions we face today?
We understand that in Noah’s day, there would have been millions of the descendants of Adam and Eve on the earth.
— If they calculate this using historical population growth rates, they come up with the number of around 240 million people on the earth in the days of Noah.
– Q12. If only eight people were rescued from this population… What would the others have thought of Noah’s work and warnings?
They must have thought they were… O – really important. O – a reason to repent. O – lunatic ravings.
– Q13. In our days of an estimated earth population of 8 billion… What do many think when we speak of the idea that Jesus is coming back to judge the earth, as God’s Word (the Bible) tells us?
They think what we say is… O – really important. O – a reason to repent. O – lunatic ravings.
Even some misguided people who claim to be Christians, are busy trying to compromise God’s Word in the Bible, so as to fit into the modern-day thinking of worldly academics…
– Q14. Mark the claims listed from modern-day indoctrination that deny God’s Word.
O – Multiple gender ideology. O – Medically assisted suicide. O – Unrestricted abortion.
O – Surgical gender alteration. O – Denial of parental rights. O – Banning the Bible in schools.
O – Claims that religion has no place in government. O – Claiming the Bible is hate literature.
Sadly, this list could be made even longer, however, let’s stop there as the point is made…
— It seems we are in a time that is equal to the days of Noah, so what can we do to ensure we are not deceived?
I will let the words of Jesus give us instruction on how to resist all the world’s deceptions…
From 1st John 16:7-14… (ESV) Nevertheless, I tell you the truth: it is to your advantage that I go away, for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you. But if I go, I will send him to you. (8) And when he comes, he will convict the world concerning sin and righteousness and judgment: (9) concerning sin, because they do not believe in me; (10) concerning righteousness, because I go to the Father, and you will see me no longer; (11) concerning judgment, because the ruler of this world is judged. (12) I still have many things to say to you, but you cannot bear them now. (13) When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all the truth, for he will not speak on his own authority, but whatever he hears he will speak, and he will declare to you the things that are to come. (14) He will glorify me, for he will take what is mine and declare it to you.
— As we come to the end of these Bible Quizzes…
My prayer is that God’s Holy Spirit will continue to lead us away from deceptions and guide us into all truth. (I hope you’ve benefitted from our digging further into God’s Word. …KK)
