‘Generation of the Depraved Mind’
Sometimes inspiration comes when we are pressed to the flame,
this happened to our family in 2005, in our own dear Lumby Town Where we were co-pastoring in Open Door Christian Fellowship.
I hope you appreciate a father’s heart, for this story contained here is true and the ramifications are eternal. For this came as I heard the news that my 14-year-old son, who struggles with autism, was viciously attacked as he returned home from school.
(I submit this in 2019, and I marvel at how these words were given to me as I sought from the Lord, what to do, and what not to do, speak prophetically to the times we live in. For ‘Grand Theft Auto’ is mild compared to what the children are playing with now. And the violence on our streets, and in our schools, only continues to increase.)
‘Generation of the Depraved Mind’
Oh, generation of the depraved mind and the violent fist,
My fourteen-year-old son became a target on your list…
My flesh wants revenge; you tried to kill the son of my wife.
To beat him down not enough… you desired to kick out his life…
For what reason, what gain? …For BRAVADO for THRILL?
He wanted only to return home… that’s no reason to KILL!
But that’s almost what happened… THANK GOD IT WAS NOT SO.
Oh, you’re so lucky you didn’t meet me …a few short hours ago…
I don’t care your excuses …so much for macho or sick fun,
“Shut Up!” is no reason …to put your boots to my son…
Oh, generation of the depraved mind …you had better repent,
Grand Theft Auto, and Halo, the rot, the violence, the bent…
They who seek the crunch of fist to flesh, and of boot to face,
When THEIR MAKER they meet, will find no hiding place…
FOR HE TOO HAD A SON, crushed, beaten and kicked,
A FATHER’S REVENGE …will be swift, hot and thick…
For a day is soon coming, when HIS MERCY SHALL END,
On the beaches of the ‘Lake of Fire’ …IT’S NO PICNIC, MY FRIEND!
So the day that we meet, and oh yes meet we shall,
I’ll try to remember my master …Lord help me not to fail.
Oh, vengeance would be sweet, but “IT IS MINE,” He has said,
So generation of the depraved mind repent …before you’re dead.
Dedicated to my amazing son Patrick…
Thank God it is not ‘IN MEMORY OF’.
