#13 – Jehovah Raah – The Lord my Shepherd.

This name given to God, is found in the writing of King David, in Psalm 23…
Psalm 23:1… “The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want.”

King David calls his God his Shepherd. – This has so many implications and truths contained in regarding our Lord as such.
— A shepherd tends a flock… To do this a shepherd has to know what his flock needs.

Let’s examine some needs of a flock of sheep, for instance:
1/ They need feeding. – Not only does a good shepherd need to know where they will find good pasture, he also needs to know what to feed a sheep when it is sick.
— Our God knows what is best for us, and sometimes it isn’t what we think is best (what we really want). However, in some 60+ years of following my Good Shepherd, God has never led me into and through anything that didn’t turn out for my good. (I pray you can say the same.)
— In that, God has corrected me; He sometimes has blocked my path; then opened new paths to follow; He has also blessed me; comforted me; stood by me when I faced threatening battles; and thankfully has led me, as He did King David, besides those still waters of peace.

2/ That brings us to another need sheep have, they need water.
Psalm 23:2…  He makes me lie down in green pastures. He leads me beside still waters. 
—  If you’ve heard preaching on the 23^rd Psalm, you have probably been told that sheep will not drink from rushing water (like in rapids). – This is basically true, as sheep prefer quiet waters as rushing waters not only disturb them, but also bring danger as a sheep’s wool makes them very prone to drowning.
— Our Good Shepherd not only knows what is good for us, He knows what is dangerous to us.

Our God, Jehovah Raah, is truly all-knowing, and He loves you and me, the sheep of His pasture. – And one more thing I found in researching this document, by extension Jehovah Raah also indicates a relationship as a friend… ISN’T THAT AMAZING!

God, your loving Creator and Shepherd, also walks through this life as your Friend.
