About occupational bias…
You may wonder what I am talking about here?
So, I will start with scripture: From the teaching of Jesus in the Gospel of John 13:3-9 (ESV)
— Jesus, knowing that the Father had given all things into his hands, and that he had come from God and was going back to God, rose from supper. He laid aside his outer garments, and taking a towel, tied it around his waist. Then he poured water into a basin and began to wash the disciples’ feet and to wipe them with the towel that was wrapped around him.
He came to Simon Peter, who said to him, “Lord, do you wash my feet?” Jesus answered him, “What I am doing you do not understand now, but afterward you will understand.” Peter said to him, “You shall never wash my feet.” Jesus answered him, “If I do not wash you, you have no share with me.” Simon Peter said to him, “Lord, not my feet only but also my hands and my head!”
— Here we have a common reaction people have to ‘proper roles of leadership’ (and I purposely put this in quotation marks)…
For example: What would you think of the pastor of your church if he supplemented his income by collecting garbage for the waste disposal company 3 days a week? – That would mean that the person preaching from the ‘pulpit’ on Sunday, was the garbage collector of you community. – I really would like to know your honest response to that.
This is why Peter responded by trying to stop Jesus from washing his feet. Peter had a work-related bias, he tended to rate people by their employment. – DO YOU?
Should we not praise the leaders who are prepared to ‘lower-their-standings’ in the community, so as to proclaim the value and equality of all before God our Creator?
— Jesus was teaching us to put away any such prejudices, so let’s follow His teaching. I know God will bless us as we appreciate the work of everyone who serves others. (…In Christ KRK)
