Sometimes reading God’s Word from a different Bible translation reveals new inspirations and wisdom.
That is what I found when being directed to the writings of king Solomon in the English Revised Version.
Ecclesiastes 3:1-8 There is a right time for everything, and everything on earth will happen at the right time. (2) There is a time to be born and a time to die. There is a time to plant and a time to pull up plants. (3) There is a time to kill and a time to heal. There is a time to destroy and a time to build. (4) There is a time to cry and a time to laugh. There is a time to be sad and a time to dance with joy. (5) There is a time to throw weapons down and a time to pick them up. There is a time to hug someone and a time to stop holding so tightly. (6) There is a time to look for something and a time to consider it lost. There is a time to keep things and a time to throw things away. (7) There is a time to tear cloth and a time to sew it. There is a time to be silent and a time to speak. (8) There is a time to love and a time to hate. There is a time for war and a time for peace.
— I don’t know how the Lord is speaking to you as you read this earthly wisdom written by a man especially God-anointed in matters of man’s wisdom, however, I want to share what jumped out at me, and set my mind on God’s truths contained herein…
Vs.1 – This has proven to be so true in my 70+ years of life, and it’s also in the testimony of so many other Christians. In short form, God’s timing is as important as God’s will being done.
Vs.4 – I was thinking about how my wife is such an outgoing happy person, while I am serious to the point of almost being labelled a ‘party-pooper’.
— After 35 wonderful years of co-existing in marriage, I remain convinced that God has brought us together to a proper balance of laughter and weeping.
Vs.5 – Since we are not yet in any state of war here, what grabbed me from this verse is the statement, “ There is a time to hug someone and a time to stop holding so tightly.”
— Becoming ‘empty nesters’ has made that truth so evident to us. Again in short form, you need to know when to let go.
Vs.6 – As the aging process will teach us all, there is a time to move on and not try to hold onto our past, whether that be some activities that our older bodies cannot risk any longer, or ministries that need to be turned over to the next generations.
— This does NOT MEAN going into storage on the shelf, waiting for the undertaker.
— It means that we need to be looking for God’s FURTHER PLANS for us and NEW MINISTRIES and yes even new pleasures.
— In closing, I believe Vs.7 speaks of a need to love the good, and hate the evil that entraps mankind, because the words of Jesus, who was so much wiser than Solomon, teach us to love everyone, even your enemies.
— If you are reading my thoughts today, thanks for your consideration, and yes, I follow my Lord Jesus, and I do love you, no matter where you are in your life’s journey. God bless! (KK)
