Some Christians are troubled by the thought that in heaven they will not recognize nor be recognized by family and others. It seems they see the NEWNESS of the New Heaven and New Earth to include the erasing of all memories of the past.
— This could stem from ideas they entertain from the scriptures in Revelations 21:3-5 (GNB) I heard a loud voice speaking from the throne: “Now God’s home is with people! He will live with them, and they shall be his people. God himself will be with them, and he will be their God. (4) He will wipe away all tears from their eyes. There will be no more death, no more grief or crying or pain. The old things have disappeared.” (5) Then the one who sits on the throne said, “And now I make all things new!” He also said to me, “Write this, because these words are true and can be trusted.”
— When we read God’s Words we must connect the understanding of same with the rest of His Words to us. For God does not contradict Himself.
— As such we need to connect our understanding of these scriptures with the following verses.
1st Corinthians 13:9-12 (GNB) For our gifts of knowledge and of inspired messages are only partial; (10) but when what is perfect comes, then what is partial will disappear. (11) When I was a child, my speech, feelings, and thinking were all those of a child; now that I am an adult, I have no more use for childish ways. (12) What we see now is like a dim image in a mirror; then we shall see face-to-face. What I know now is only partial; then it will be complete—as complete as God’s knowledge of me.
— Please note that when God speaks in His Word of “making all things new!” – He is also speaking of giving us a newer and fuller knowledge of the past, present, and future, just as God has knowledge of these today.
— JUST THINK ABOUT THAT FOR A MOMENT… As an example, when we meet with Moses, and in eternal time we all will have such an opportunity, Moses will know all about you just as God knows all about you, and you will know Moses just as God knows His faithful servant.
— This knowledge should not cause trepidation, because just as God loves us so deeply in full knowledge of who we are, so Moses will have that same heavenly love for you and me, just as we are.
— And our love for Moses and all the ‘saints’ will also be in the fullness of God’s knowledge and love for them.
Isn’t that a beautiful picture of how wonderful and full our fellowship with God and others will be in Glory? May God bless you and encourage you, and I look forward to seeing you there. … (KK)
