About sacrificing your best lamb… (OR Why give gifts at Christmas?)
In the time of the Old Testament, a sheep owner who served the Lord, would always be looking for the perfect lamb. And as a God-follower, he would rejoice when one was born, even though he knew that this lamb was going to be sacrificed to the Lord.
— Doesn’t that compare well with our Christmas celebrations?
Think about it… God the Father commanded the angels to go and tell the earth to rejoice for their Savior was born. Do you understand that God, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, were fully aware that the babe was born to go to the cross as a sacrifice for our sin.
— That should not stop of us from celebrating with Joy-To-The-World as God commanded.
SEE: Luke 2:8-14… There were some shepherds in that part of the country who were spending the night in the fields, taking care of their flocks. (9) An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone over them. They were terribly afraid, (10) but the angel said to them, “Don’t be afraid! I am here with good news for you, which will bring great joy to all the people. (11) This very day in David’s town your Savior was born—Christ the Lord! (12) And this is what will prove it to you: you will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger.” (13) Suddenly a great army of heaven’s angels appeared with the angel, singing praises to God: (14) “Glory to God in the highest heaven, and peace on earth to those with whom he is pleased!”
— So in all our gift-giving, let’s remember why we celebrate. It’s not about Santa, for the gifts we give are in honor of and remembrance of God’s greatest gift, the baby Jesus, who was born to be that perfect sacrifice.
It saddens me to see Christians turn the Christmas season into one that sorrows for the coming sacrifice of Easter…
As God commanded the angels to announce, this is the time to rejoice, not the time for mourning.
For those who in this time of strife and warring factions, have difficulty finding peace so they can rejoice in this season of celebrating God’s greatest gift to mankind, I want to bring you God’s Word and counsel…
— Philippians 4:4-7 May you always be joyful in your union with the Lord. I say it again: rejoice! (5) Show a gentle attitude toward everyone. The Lord is coming soon. (6) Don’t worry about anything, but in all your prayers ask God for what you need, always asking him with a thankful heart. (7) And God’s peace, which is far beyond human understanding, will keep your hearts and minds safe in union with Christ Jesus.
