How to be joyful in times like these

How can we “rejoice always” from Phil 4:4, when living in this broken, hate-filled, suffering world?

— It comes down to FAITH… (Please don’t dismiss me too quickly. Let me explain.)

1/ Does your faith rely on the fact that God is a good God, who doesn’t want anyone to perish, but for all to find eternal life? (John 3:16-17)

2/ Do you believe that He is still in control? (Psalm 103:19)

If so, these are the building blocks of your steadfast JOY. These factors of our faith give us the ability to look past our circumstances and see the blessings that God has for us, as we hold fast to our faith in Him.

Psalm 103:8-19 is a song of this JOY… (8) The LORD is merciful and gracious, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love.  (9)  He will not always chide, nor will he keep his anger forever.  (10)  He does not deal with us according to our sins, nor repay us according to our iniquities.  (11)  For as high as the heavens are above the earth, so great is his steadfast love toward those who fear him;  (12)  as far as the east is from the west, so far does he remove our transgressions from us.  (13)  As a father shows compassion to his children, so the LORD shows compassion to those who fear him.  (14)  For he knows our frame; he remembers that we are dust.  (15)  As for man, his days are like grass; he flourishes like a flower of the field;  (16)  for the wind passes over it, and it is gone, and its place knows it no more.  (17)  But the steadfast love of the LORD is from everlasting to everlasting on those who fear him, and his righteousness to children’s children,  (18)  to those who keep his covenant and remember to do his commandments.  (19)  The LORD has established his throne in the heavens, and his kingdom rules over all.

The JOY of the Lord is our STRENGTH… Joy is not a surface smiling and dancing in happiness. Joy remains in us even when we sorrow. HOW? ~ This deep understanding of victory that is coming to us after the storm, is the strength that gives us the ability to stand and survive the storm, in spite of momentary sorrows.

— That is why the Apostle Paul could say, “Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, rejoice.” (Philippians 4:4)

Is your life traveling through one of life’s storms?

— The answer to keeping your joy and peace is found in this song I leave you in closing…

‘I will pilot thee’
