Jesus speaks of judgement and correction.

(Jesus’ Sermon on the Mount studies, cont’d)

Jesus speaks of judgement and correction…     (Pg.1)

Matthew 7:1-5 (ESV) “Judge not, that you be not judged. (2) For with the judgment you pronounce you will be judged, and with the measure you use it will be measured to you.
(3) Why do you see the speck that is in your brother’s eye, but do not notice the log that is in your own eye? (4) Or how can you say to your brother, ‘Let me take the speck out of your eye,’ when there is the log in your own eye? (5) You hypocrite, first take the log out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to take the speck out of your brother’s eye.”

Q3. If we ever feel the need to speak a word of correction to anyone, what factors must we consider before opening our mouths?

☐ Would it be better to stay silent?     ☐ Is the Holy Spirit prompting me to speak?

☐ Is this the right place and time to correct?     ☐ Am I simply irritated, or do I want to help?

☐ Is this my chance to really put this person in their place and to knock them down a peg?

☐ Am I speaking from a position of superiority or that of caring for the other person?

☐ Can I say it in a way that doesn’t offend?     ☐ How will I handle things if it does offend?

☐ Is it important enough to risk offending?     ☐ Have I had to confront this in my own life?

Jesus speaks of judgement and correction…     (Pg.2)

God had the Apostle Paul write of the Church, the body of Christ here on earth…

Colossians 3:11-16 (ESV) Here there is not Greek and Jew, circumcised and uncircumcised, barbarian, Scythian, slave, free; but Christ is all, and in all. (12) Put on then, as God’s chosen ones, holy and beloved, compassionate hearts, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience, (13) bearing with one another and, if one has a complaint against another, forgiving each other; as the Lord has forgiven you, so you also must forgive. (14) And above all these put on love, which binds everything together in perfect harmony. (15) And let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body. And be thankful. (16) Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God.

Q6. In what ways does this scripture touch on the subject of judging that Jesus was teaching about?

Q7. What is the only requirement for a soul to be saved?

To answer, read:

John 3:16… “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.”

Romans 10:9-10… because, if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. (10) For with the heart one believes and is justified, and with the mouth one confesses and is saved.

Q8. Is there more than one Church, the body of Christ here on earth?
— Read
1st Corinthians 12:12-14… For just as the body is one and has many members, and all the members of the body, though many, are one body, so it is with Christ. (13) For in one Spirit we were all baptized into one body—Jews or Greeks, slaves or free—and all were made to drink of one Spirit. (14) For the body does not consist of one member but of many.
